Key Stage 3

Science is an exciting, dynamic and challenging subject. We aim to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of key scientific concepts, and their investigative skills as young scientists.

What do students do?

Year 7 consists of six teaching units covering all three sciences.

The units cover: the particle theory of matter, cells, light and sound, ecology, chemical reactions, reproduction and variation.

Year 8 consists of a further six teaching units, again covering all three sciences. The units cover: forces and astronomy, investigative chemistry, health, electricity and energy, plants and investigative skills.

Across both years students carry out a range of investigations related to the academic concepts they have studied in class, and develop their practical investigative skills.

Assessment
Students are assessed at the very start of Year 7, in order to assess their individual starting points and to enable us to monitor their progress. End of module assessments occur regularly throughout the Key Stage 3 course.
